In at least one aspect, it appears Peña Nieto is preparing a return to the days of Echeverría and López Portillo: his residence. In 2000, Vicente Fox had moved the residences at the Los Pinos presidential compound from the main building (the Casa Miguel Alemán) to a pair of bungalows and converted the Casa Miguel Alemán to offices – renovations that proved rather scandalous in their expense.

In returning the presidential residences to the Casa Miguel Alemán, Peña Nieto is returning to a space marked by such classic priísta expenditures as López Portillo’s installation of a two-floor elevator and María Esther Zuno’s decision to replace the French-styling with a ‘Mexicanized’ space decorated with tile and a fireplace.

The whole rather interesting story is here.
